Building REALISTIC DRAWBRIDGES With Extremely Low Stress

Poly Bridge 2 Part 94 - drawbridges are surprisingly tricky to reduce stress on. Not to mention that the bridges are getting larger and tougher in general, should make a fun challenge to reduce stress!
Edited by: BenBenRanger ( BenBenRanger)
Poly Bridge 2 is the sequel to the hit indie bridge building game Poly Bridge. Poly Bridge 2 introduces new mechanics such as strong roads and springs. Explore new levels, with new vehicles, and a new deterministic physics engine. Enjoy more bridge building fun!

  • If the devs added an option to change the stress level that pieces would break at, that would be a way to implement a min-stress leaderboard because you could actually see the most-stressed member. Or, you could just have an option to highlight the most-stressed member in the same way that it highlights the first-break member.

  • Poly bridge 2 idea for coop: There will up to 4 players and they will all get their part of the bridge to build with their own separate budget which, after it adds up give you the full budget(they don't all need equal budgets). The maps could be from campaign but a whole new coop levels should be made for better experience.Levels should be asymetrical to remove copy/pasting bridges and they would all have their parts of land to build, except in levels where the player border will be in middle of the air. There they will need to teamwork to make a working design by voting for making a special joint in the middle of the border which will only be there so the players can attach their part of bridges together. That joint won't show up when playing the level because it only serves a purpose of connecting bridges(it's breakable and usseles to use as an anchor).I imagined the joint to be yellow but it should look like the collor of the player which put it.Chatting in those levels should be enabled especially in levels where teamwork is necesary, and afcorse swearing would be deleted and player would get a warning that he will get a penalty for swearing too much(knowing that 85% person of people won't have problems from this).A pointing sistem should be added to have players be able to help eachother by pointing at a part of the bridge which is having problems.Reporting and vote banning sistems should also be there just because.

  • There are ways the UI could be changed to make Lowest Stress less frustrating. - Ability to preview stress on the bridge while you're building. - Max Stress readout on the HUD. - More decimal places of precision. - Mousing over a piece will show you the numerical amount of stress that piece is experiencing or has experienced. - When multiple pieces break, the damage report will show you the order in which they broke.

    • @Alexis Mandelias the preview would be of resting without the car on it. the color is useless when it comes to lower stress because you won't be able to tell the difference.

      Kai SchreursKai Schreurs2 kuukautta sitten

    • @Alexis Mandelias 4) no it doesn't, if the stress is low enough (

      FlyMasterFlyMaster2 kuukautta sitten
    • Another idea would be to have some way of changing the scale of the stress color identifier - if you know the bridge experiences a maximum stress of 10% for example, then having 10% stress show up as red would allow you to tell what gets stressed on a smaller scale.

  • On bridges where you have a long truss that's supported in the middle as well as the ends, could you reduce stress by placing a small gap in the top? Otherwise, the middle support won't be able to take up any weight unless the truss flexes slightly, and such stress would put the top into compression, which I would expect would in turn would add to the tension experienced by the bottom. Alternatively, could you replace some wood or steel sections with springs? Letting things move slightly while using a spring to prevent them from moving too much would seem like a good way to reduce stress in many circumstances.

Flat Finger TuningFlat Finger Tuning2 kuukautta sitten
  • The easiest way to force a stress threshold is just to have an option where the bridge breaks at 40% instead of 100%, and the stress gets colored as if it was close to breaking.

  • If you want to do super low stress, like going for low stress leaderboards, i think the best thing to do is to recreate the level in the level editor, and then double the weight of the car, plus set every single joint in the bridge to be a split joint. Then design a bridge which stays under 40% stress. Then remake the bridge exactly in the actual level, and it should be well under 10-20%.

    martinshoostermanmartinshoosterman2 kuukautta sitten

      joeger krepjoeger krep2 kuukautta sitten
    • And perhaps also have a mode that can view pieces colored according to their maximum stress, rather than just their current stress. Alternatively, have a mode to scale the strength of pieces, so that they'd break at 40% (or whatever level is configured) stress, so as to make this kind of challenge work even for single-use levels with breakaway sections.
